A Storm Is Coming
He’s not a hero anyone would ask for, but maybe he’s the one the world needs right now. Man-mountain The Rock finally makes his bow as the big, bad, Black Adam.
Words Robb Sheppard
It feels like the world has been waiting a long time for Black Adam. Now he’s here, you better be ready!
Ever since Shazam! was first shouted, the appearance of Billy Batson’s comic book archnemesis has been highly anticipated. Black Adam comes to the big screen, but not quite how anyone envisioned; as a standalone story about an ancient Egyptian slave who was murdered and entombed only to emerge five-thousand years later with the power of the gods and a determination to show the world what it really means to be a hero.
Dwayne Johnson has been just as excited to embody the role of Black Adam for years and, with his wish granted, he’s ready to unleash his (un)justice on the world.
With his famed reputation as the most electrifying man in ALL entertainment, it’s fitting that his antihero arrives wielding thunderbolts and lightning, and being very, very frightening to anyone he deems bad. In short, Pierce Brosnan’s Dr Fate, Aldis Hodge’s Hawkman, Noah Centineo’s Atom Smasher, and the rest of the Justice Society of America will certainly have their hands full.
Not only is this super-sized cinema experience an opportunity to see the heroic Johnson cut loose as a morally ambiguous antihero, but with this great new power comes great potential for the future of the DCEU.
The Rock God
The Scorpion King
The half-human, half-arachnid Scorpion King in The Mummy Returns may be a punchline for early-noughties CGI, but Dwayne Johnson has never looked back from his first spin-off and leading role. Who’s laughing now?
Hercules
The Greek demigod embarks on endless adventures across literature, television, and film. Aside from having luscious locks you’d never expect from The Rock, his hulking Hercules would never say “Yo, I don’t wanna fight Cerberus!”
Moana
With his half-Polynesian heritage, larger-than-life personality, and God-like physique, The Rock was born to play the demigod Maui. A soaring singing voice is quite the surprise in a film that everyone needs to see. Thank us for the recommendation later, you’re welcome!
