Joaquin Phoenix is on the warpath in the trailer for Ridley Scott’s battle-filled historical epic.
The brand-new trailer brings a better look at the Academy Award-winning actor’s astonishingly transformative performance as he takes the starring role in the origin story of one of history’s most legendary figures. The reunion between its director and star already had anticipation levels raised as Joaquin Phoenix and Ridley Scott work together for the first time in over two decades to chronicle Napoleon Bonaparte’s remarkable rise and fall. The Gladiator parallels are plan for all to see throughout, but this is something far bigger and even more battle-filled as the trailer teases as many as six epic battles that are purported to be some of the most dynamic practical battle sequences ever seen in film. But the tale of the visionary military and political leader isn’t entirely set on the battlefield, but also in the bedroom as the film captures Napoleon’s journey to power through the prism of his addictive and turbulent relationship with his one true love, Josephine, who’s played by Vanessa Kirby.
